Tried to get better at PVP - Jeebus!

Been playing for a good while now, mostly PVE and I like the survivor aspect and building a quiet camp and venturing into towns for supplies etc. I always seem to die to other players who either get the drop on me and KOS or if I try the same, my aim is so crap I get ganked in return. A friend advised playing a deathmatch server to practice PVP - what an experience. I think I died 30 times in a row. 30 people in a town and everyone just seems to know exactly where I am, raise their weapons so...
