Tips for Getting over Gear Fear/Fear of PVP?

I started playing DayZ a year ago and since then I’ve only really been choosing to play on low pop servers and i haven’t really tried to go to high risk areas like Tisy or any big military locations. Mostly because I’m afraid of losing gear or dying, even though I’ve gotten my characters killed just so I can have the fresh spawn experience again.
