Just started playing DayZ on PS5 a couple months ago. I died every 15mins the first week but soon after I started to play more cautiously. Focus has been living a hermit lifestyle in the woods and only going into towns when necessary to re-up on supplies. Hunting animals in the woods, making fires to cook food and get warm.
